Viewfinder

An Electronic View Finder is essentially a small monitor that is housed inside a light blocking box that has a diopter lens that allows the human eye to see a very small screen in focus when the eye is pressed up against the EVF housing.

An EVF is very useful for allowing the camera operator to see the image in close-up detail and in a darkened environment to assist in deterniming framing composition, sharp focus, and correct exposure.
