Chimera

The Chimera (some pronounce as shi'-mera, others pronounce as kI'-mera) is a heat resistant fabric bag-like, light control and blocking device.  There are many shapes and sizes of what are referred to as speed rings that slip into the barn door holders or attach to the front of many various types of lighting instruments, lamps and strobes. The speed ring accepts tension poles that are slid into the chimera bag and then the speeding, causing tension to give shape to the Chimera bag. When assembled the Chimera looks similar to a camping tent attached to the front of a light. Some Chimeras have built in diffusion material of a fixed density that diffuse the light emitting from the light source. Other models of Chimera have removable and replaceable diffusion materials and even light control grids that help more minutely control the light coming from the various lamps. The use of a Chimera is a very efficient light control tool as the Chimera mounts directly to the set light or lighting instrument.  The Chimera is a grip department time saver because there is no need for setting separate topper, bottomer, and left and right siders, with their c-stands and sandbags at the light. When the light is tilted up or down or then panned left and right, the attached Chimera follows the motion of the light because it is attached to the lamp.
