Back Light refers to the position of a specific lighting instrument relative to the camera/subject axis. Generally, the lamp is positioned behind and above the subject when viewed through the camera lens.

Backlighting is a technique where a lighting instrument is placed behind a translucent or semi-transparent material with the intent of 'Glowing' or illuminating the material.
