Practical Effects

Praactical Effects are any manipulation of the camera, lighting, set pieces, props or other physical items present on-set at the time of production. Practical Effects insinuate that a special effect captured in-camera has been done in a practical manner as opposed to digitally or optically in post production.

Practical Effects are often handled by a Special Effects department representative such as a fireball explosion. In simple terms, a prodcution person or art department member could handle a practical effect such as smoke machine or fogger.
